The Larches - Environmentally Friendly Lakeland Cottage

Labour saviour comes to Seldom Seen

crane-hoist1The last big landscaping work at The Larches has just been completed. We wanted to level and re-turf the second lawn on the south side of the cottage. This has been used over the last 4 years for storing materials and mixing concrete.

We needed three one-ton bags of topsoil so breathed a sigh of relief when the suppliers said they’d lift them with the hoist over the hedge and into position eight feet above the level of the road. It may not sound much but just try carrying 4 tons of materials up a short set of steps! With the BBQ area just above, the lawn’s fine now for meals – and bowls if that’s what you fancy – and there’s a comfy garden seat there too.

Website approaches lift-off!

troutbeck-thmb21The site is starting to look good now after the setting up stages. Leanda’s secured the weather details and entered other information about the cottage.

I’ve just added another photo for the home page slide show. This shows Troutbeck from the Garbourn Road with the golden evening light picking out the ancient bumps and contouring of the land. These fields must be some of the oldest in the Lake District to be under continuous cultivation.
